All trailers are equipped with a brake system to ensure safe towing in different driving conditions. Depending on the state you live in, your trailer is required to have brakes on at least one axle. Some states require by law that all axles have them. That is because the tow vehicle’s brakes cannot provide the required power to slow down the total weight of a vehicle and a trailer attached to it. Surely, all trailer brake parts should be in good condition to be able to operate in perfect harmony for reliable and predictable stopping power. The electric brakes are most commonly installed on travel trailers and fifth-wheels. They include two shoes that are joined by an adjuster. They are pressed against the drum by an actuating arm. It is moved by a magnet when the driver activates it by a controller installed in the cab of a towing vehicle.
