Used in campers with a plumbing system, a pump filter carries out a crucial function: it protects the water pump from debris, rust, and small particles that may get inside from the freshwater tank. Most of these filters are actually strainers with a mesh screen which differ in performance. There are 20-, 40-, and 50-mesh screen filters, along with other options that are less spread in RVs; these numbers refer to the amount of holes for a square inch of the screen's surface. The bigger the number, the smaller the holes, and the smaller the particles they will trap.

If compared to polypropylene cartridge filters, their screen counterparts have a much lower filtration ability, however, it's enough for the pump to work smoothly for a long while. Also, unlike cartridges, screen filters usually don't cause pressure drops unless they are seriously clogged. Made of stainless steel, mesh screens are washable and reusable, yet you can also utilize an additional filter or module for potable water. As for service intervals, it's recommended to take out and wash the screen at the beginning and/or end of your RV season, or every six months if you're an active RVer. In our store, you can choose from different types of RV pump filters featuring barbed or threaded ports and available in various sizes.
