You worked hard to save up for your trailer. You enjoy using it and you enjoy turning back to look at it with pride as you walk away. Maybe you even enjoy towing it! But cleaning it and removing gunk and grime from all those hard-to-clean window, door, and roof areas? Not so much.
Why You Definitely Need A Trailer Cover
When it's time to park your trailer, leaving it exposed to the elements without a quality cover is the worst thing you can do. Because it will probably sit in the same spot for a while, the sun’s path and the angle it hits your trailer will be repeated over and over with every passing day. Unfortunately, this effect leads to uneven fading which devalues your investment by making it look prematurely old and dingy. Soft gaskets, seals, and hard plastic components can really take a hit also - drying up, cracking, and leaking before their time.
Airborne contaminants, tree sap, bird droppings, and impacts from falling branches or acorns only compound harmful effects of the sun, making things much harder on your finish. Maybe you haven’t envisioned selling your trailer or trading up yet, but wear from the elements can really cost you by way of lost resale value.
A good trailer cover will block the sun's UV rays and deflect harmful outside elements so you can spend more time enjoying your trailer instead of cleaning it. Water that gets through the cover will evaporate quickly thanks to porous materials that release moisture from below. In fact, trailer covers start drying practically as soon as precipitation ends - leaving trailer surfaces underneath completely dry.
In this article, we'll take a look at covers that provide the protection you need for a variety of trailer styles (if you're looking for a cover for an RV, check out our related article on RV covers). Most of those we offer are available with features such as:
- air vents to dry out moisture and prevent wind bellowing;
- adjustable tension straps for a snug fit;
- zippered sections for easy interior access;
- a convenient carrying bag for compact storage.
What Size Trailer Cover Do I Need?
Note that trailer measurements requested by RV parks typically start at the trailer hitch, because the campground needs to know how much ground space you'll actually be occupying. When you're measuring a trailer for a cover, you'll start at the front of the trailer body instead. Measure all the way to the rear of the trailer body.
Most covers we offer are designed with "universal fit" sizes of a specified length. While these aren't designed for any specific make and model trailer, they are built with some extra play to accommodate air conditioners, ladders, and exterior spare tires. You'll see length choices in the Product Options field. On some "vehicle-specific" covers tailored for individual trailers, a list of make and model choices would appear in the Product Options field instead.
If your measurements fall in between two cover sizes, choose the smaller one. Most cover manufacturers are conservative with their measurements, and build in a little extra room over the advertised amount.
Large Trailers
We'll start with large trailer covers. In our store, we offer a lot of options to choose from. Below, we give you some examples of them.

Pickup Truck Camper Covers
Like any trailer that sits outside when it's not in use, pickup truck campers are equally susceptible to grime and muck buildup on roofs, windows, and seams. We've got pickup truck camper covers in the sizes you need from Classic Accessories, ADCO, Eevelle, and Camco.
Fifth Wheel & Gooseneck Trailers
A fifth-wheel trailer is one that attaches to a hitch piece that’s mounted horizontally on a truck bed instead of a traditional trailer hitch below a vehicle’s rear bumper.
Technically, a "5th wheel" style trailer attachment is one where the female side of the hitch coupling is bolted to the truck that's doing the towing. This is sometimes confused with a "gooseneck" wheel hitch setup that puts the male end of the coupling on the truck doing the towing.
We mention this because, other than the hitch assemblies, 5th wheel and gooseneck trailer bodies look basically the same from the outside. In order to maximize useable space, they're designed with a partial extension over the hitch assembly. So if you have a gooseneck trailer, you can still find a cover for it in our 5th wheel trailer section.
For best value, we've got:

Hauler & Cargo Trailer Covers
A “toy hauler” is a descriptive term for a trailer designed with an easily accessible rear storage area for hauling motorcycles, ATVs, or other motorsports equipment. But unlike basic cargo trailers, toy haulers typically have front sections that are finished living quarters. The percentage of cargo-to-living space may vary, but all toy haulers are equipped with rear swing-down doors that double as loading ramps.
To accommodate this kind of functionality, toy hauler covers feature roll-away rear sections along with zip-open side door panels to access finished areas up front. Like all types of trailers, haulers come in varying lengths as do covers for them:
- The ADCO SFS AquaShed Polypropylene Toy Hauler Trailer Cover is an excellent value with sizes ranging from under 10' up to 34.5' This model is a great choice for climates with moderate UV and high moisture. Additional Cover Pieces Worth Considering
In the Product Options field of many of the trailer covers we offer, you’ll see a few additional items we feel are worth your while to consider. Tire covers for a trailer prevent sun exposure that speeds up “dry rot” of rubber tires. These are sold for a range of tire/wheel diameters - either as individual pieces for each wheel, or as a single cover for 2 to 3 tandem wheels.
If you have a ladder on the rear, ladder covers offered in some Product Options fields will prevent abrasive wear of your main cover that would normally result from it rubbing against exposed corners and edges of the ladder.
Maybe your trailer isn’t equipped with a ladder. Chances are it probably has some kind of outside air conditioner unit or adjacent fuel tanks with sharp edges that can shred a trailer cover placed over them. For this reason, we offer fuel/propane tank covers and air conditioner covers to protect both the items themselves and your main cover.
This concludes our look at trailer covers. Note that we also carry a variety of other interior items tailored for the mobile life such as large appliances, small appliances, furniture, electronics, lighting, bathroom components, GPS systems, propane tanks, air conditioners and water heaters, and much more.
